Why aluminum is the default for most homes
Zero maintenance
The powder coat is baked onto the metal at the factory. It doesn't peel like painted wood or rust like iron. Hose it off once a season and you're done.
Honest price
At $85/ft installed it's the most affordable system we offer — usually cheaper over ten years than a wood railing you have to stain every other summer.
Fits any house
Straight black pickets disappear against almost any exterior. Decorative spindle and circle patterns suit older Toronto porches that want some character.
Built to code
Ontario Building Code requires guards at 36" (900 mm) for most decks and porches, 42" (1,070 mm) where the surface is more than 5'11" above grade, with openings a 100 mm sphere can't pass through and no climbable elements. Our picket systems are designed around exactly those numbers. Details in the Ontario railing code guide.
Where we install it
Front porches are the classic aluminum job — concrete steps, a couple of posts, done in a day. Decks, exterior stairs, and balconies are all standard work, and a lot of our installs are replacements of rusted iron or rotting wood. Busy areas for us: Scarborough and Pickering.

Aluminum railing questions, answered
How much do aluminum railings cost in Toronto?
From $85 per linear foot installed, plus a $250 base price. A typical 20 ft front porch calculates around $1,755–$2,145; a 40 ft deck run around $3,285–$4,015 before old railing removal. Use the estimator on this page for an instant range.
Will aluminum railings rust?
No. Aluminum doesn't rust the way steel and iron do, and the powder-coated finish is baked on rather than painted. That's the practical difference from wrought iron, which needs scraping and repainting every few years in our climate.
What styles and colours are available?
Straight pickets are standard and what most homes get. Decorative options like spindle and circle designs are available. Black is the go-to colour; white and other powder-coat colours can be ordered.
Are aluminum pickets code-compliant?
Yes — our systems use picket spacing under 100 mm (4 inches) so a child can't fit through, with guard heights of 36 or 42 inches depending on how far your deck or porch sits above grade. That's what the Ontario Building Code requires.
Aluminum or glass — how do I pick?
Budget and view. Aluminum costs less, never shows fingerprints, and suits traditional homes. Glass costs more and is the pick when you want an open view. Our glass vs aluminum comparison covers it honestly.
How long does an aluminum railing install take?
Most porch and deck jobs are measured once, then installed in a single visit. Straight runs go quickly; stairs and multiple landings add time. We confirm the schedule with your quote.
