Porch railings in Toronto & East GTA

Front porch railings are our bread and butter: aluminum picket from $85/linear ft installed, or framed and frameless glass for modern fronts. Anchored properly into concrete, built to Ontario Building Code guard heights, usually installed in a single visit.

The porch job, done properly

A porch railing fails at the anchors, not the pickets. Toronto porches are mostly poured concrete or stone-capped block, often decades old, and each needs the right anchor and base plate so posts stay tight through freeze-thaw. We drill and anchor for the material that's actually there — not whatever the truck has.

Classic homes: aluminum picket

Black pickets on a brick Toronto front are the default for a reason — they look right, take salt without rusting, and a porch-plus-steps job is at the affordable end of our work. Decorative spindle and circle patterns suit older porches.

Modern fronts: glass

Framed glass with black aluminum, clear or grey-tinted, turns a plain concrete porch into the sharpest front on the street. Tinted panels add privacy where the porch faces the sidewalk.

Porch railings pair with stair railings on the steps — we quote them as one job. Swapping out rusted iron? That's a railing replacement, removal included.

Porch railing questions, answered

Does my front porch legally need a railing?

In Ontario, a guard is generally required once the porch surface is more than 24 inches (600 mm) above grade. Below that it's your call — though many homeowners add one anyway for grip on icy steps and resale appeal.

What's the best railing for a concrete porch?

Aluminum picket is the most common choice — it anchors cleanly into concrete, handles salt and snow, and suits Toronto's older housing stock. Glass works well on modern fronts. Either way the anchoring into concrete matters more than the material; that's the part we're fussy about.

How much does a porch railing cost?

Most front porches need 10 to 25 linear feet. Aluminum is $85/ft plus the $250 base price; glass porches run higher. Text a photo of the porch and steps and we'll give you a number fast.

Can you match my neighbour's railing style?

If it's an aluminum picket or glass system, very likely. Straight pickets, spindle patterns, and circle designs cover most of what's on porches across the east end. Send a photo of what you're after.

Do porch railings need a permit?

Replacing an existing porch railing like-for-like usually doesn't. New guards can, depending on height and municipality. Our Toronto railing permit guide covers when to check, and we'll flag it during quoting.
