Glass railing cost in Toronto

Updated June 2026 — prices reviewed quarterly

In Toronto in 2026, installed glass railings run from $120 per linear foot for framed glass and $140 per linear foot for frameless glass, plus a $250 base price. A typical 30-foot deck lands between roughly $3,465 and $4,895 installed, depending on the system and whether an old railing comes off first. Those are our actual published rates, not industry averages.

Price by glass railing type

SystemStarting price (installed)Best for
Framed glassfrom $120/linear ftDecks, porches, wind-exposed runs, stairs
Frameless glassfrom $140/linear ftView decks, balconies, pool surrounds

Both systems use tempered safety glass and meet Ontario Building Code guard requirements. The deeper dive on each is on the framed glass cost guide and frameless glass cost guide.

What moves the price

  • Base visit price. Every estimate includes $250 before footage and options.
  • Removing an old railing. $5/linear ft for removal and disposal.
  • Stairs and layout. Raked panels, angled rails, more posts, and more corners add fabrication and install time.
  • Corners and posts. Every corner is fabrication and hardware; an L-shaped deck costs more than the same footage straight.
  • Height and anchoring. 42-inch guards above 5'11", anchoring into old concrete or stone caps, and second-storey access all add labour.
  • Access. Tight side yards, second-storey work, and awkward material handling can add labour.

Glass railing cost questions

Why is frameless glass more expensive than framed?

The glass does the structural work in a frameless system, so it has to be thicker — and thicker tempered glass plus engineered base-shoe or spigot hardware costs more than framed panels sitting in an aluminum frame.

Is there a base price?

Yes — every estimate includes a $250 base price. Short runs still carry fixed costs: measuring, fabrication setup, travel, and anchoring take the same care at 8 feet as at 40.

Does tinted glass cost more than clear?

Tinted panels typically add modestly to the glass cost. If privacy or glare is the goal, it's usually money better spent than going up a thickness.

What makes a quote come in above the starting rate?

Lots of corners, stair sections, removal and disposal of an old railing, tricky anchoring (stone caps, old concrete), and access. The starting rate is a real price for a straight, simple run — not a teaser.
