Balcony railings in Toronto & East GTA
We install and replace balcony railings on houses across Toronto and the East GTA — framed glass from $120/linear ft, frameless glass from $140/ft, and aluminum picket from $85/ft installed, built to the 42-inch guard height balconies require.
Small space, high stakes
A balcony guard is the one railing on the house that absolutely cannot fail — it's holding people back from a real drop. That drives three decisions: the 42" (1,070 mm) guard height the code requires up there, anchoring into structure rather than just decking, and glass that's tempered safety glass, not ordinary glazing. Our Ontario railing code guide covers the rules in plain language.
Framed glass
The balcony default: open view, solid frame for wind, top rail to lean on with your morning coffee.
Frameless glass
For view balconies — ravine lots, waterfront, top-of-hill — where the whole point is what you can see.
Aluminum picket
Right on century homes and Juliet-style balconies, and the budget-friendly way to replace rusted iron up high.
Old balcony railing past it?
Rusted posts and flaking iron on a second-storey balcony aren't just ugly — corrosion at the anchor points is a safety problem. We remove the old guard, assess the deck edge and structure, and install the new system in the same job. Balcony railing questions, answered
How high does a balcony railing need to be in Ontario?
Balconies are almost always more than 5'11" above grade, which puts the required guard height at 42 inches (1,070 mm) under the Ontario Building Code. We build to that as standard for balcony work.
Glass or aluminum for a balcony?
Glass is the popular pick — a balcony is small, and pickets make it feel smaller. Framed glass handles wind exposure with a stiffer structure; frameless maximizes the view. Aluminum picket still makes sense on classic homes and tighter budgets.
Can you replace the railing on my condo balcony?
Usually not directly — condo balconies are common elements controlled by the condo corporation, so the work goes through property management. House balconies, second-floor decks over garages, and walk-out balconies on freehold homes are all fair game and most of our balcony work.
Does wind matter for balcony glass?
Yes. A second-storey balcony catches more wind than a ground-level deck, which is one reason framed glass — where the frame takes the load — is often the right spec. Frameless works too; it just needs the thickness and hardware engineered for the exposure.
What does a balcony railing cost?
Balconies are short runs — often 12 to 25 linear feet — and every estimate includes the $250 base price. Many land between roughly $1,520 and $4,125 installed depending on system. Text us a photo from inside and outside the balcony and we'll price it fast.
