Glass railings in Toronto & East GTA

We install two glass railing systems across Toronto and the East GTA: framed glass from $120/linear ft installed and frameless glass from $140/linear ft installed.

Both use tempered safety glass and meet Ontario Building Code guard requirements. Text us a photo for a fast quote.

Framed or frameless — which one is your project?

Framed glass

Tempered glass panels set in powder-coated aluminum posts with a continuous top rail. The frame does the structural work, so the glass can be lighter and the price stays lower. A practical pick for porches, wind-exposed decks, and longer runs.

Frameless glass

Thicker tempered glass mounted in an aluminum base shoe or on stainless spigots. No posts, no top rail required, nothing between you and the view. The premium option for decks and balconies where sightlines matter.

Still on the fence? The framed vs frameless comparison breaks down cost, looks, wind, and maintenance side by side. For budget planning, see the glass railing cost guide for Toronto.

Built to Ontario Building Code

Exterior guards in Ontario must generally be 36" (900 mm) high where the walking surface is up to 5'11" (1,800 mm) above grade, and 42" (1,070 mm) above that. Glass used in guards has to be safety glass — tempered or laminated — and glass guard designs typically require engineering. We install systems with the engineering already handled and build to the heights inspectors actually check. Details in our Ontario railing code guide.

Where glass works best

Glass earns its price where there's something to look at or a space to keep open: backyard decks with a view past the fence line, balconies where a picket railing makes the space feel smaller, and front porches on modern builds. For wind-exposed exterior stairs, framed glass with a solid top rail is the practical choice.

We install glass railings across the GTA — most often in Scarborough, Pickering, and Toronto.

Glass railing questions, answered

What's the difference between framed and frameless glass railings?

Framed glass uses aluminum posts and a top rail with glass panels set into the frame. Frameless glass uses thicker tempered glass mounted in a base shoe or on spigots, with no posts interrupting the view. Framed costs less and handles wind-exposed spots well; frameless gives the cleanest look. We install both.

How much do glass railings cost in Toronto?

Framed glass starts at $120 per linear foot installed and frameless starts at $140 per linear foot installed, plus a $250 base price. Corners, stair sections, removal of an old railing, and site access move the price. Use our estimator for an instant range, or text us photos for a firm number.

Is glass railing safe for kids and pets?

Yes. We install tempered safety glass that meets Ontario Building Code requirements. There are no gaps to squeeze through and nothing to climb, which is why glass is often the choice for families with young kids.

Does glass railing survive Canadian winters?

Tempered glass and powder-coated aluminum are both rated for our freeze-thaw cycles. Snow brushes off the panels the same way it comes off a car window. Avoid metal shovels against the glass and it will outlast the deck under it.

Do I need a permit for a glass railing in Toronto?

Replacing an existing railing like-for-like usually doesn't need a permit. New guards on new decks or balconies typically fall under the deck's building permit. Rules vary by municipality — see our Toronto railing permit guide or ask us and we'll tell you straight.

How long does installation take?

Most residential glass railing installs are done in one day once materials arrive. Measure first, then fabrication, then install. We confirm the timeline with your quote.
